This update really helps small or new channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YouTube <strong>lowered the barrier to entry for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Ebxw7EB7Ha4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">YouTube Partner Program<\/a><\/strong> from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tubebuddy.com\/blog\/how-to-get-1000-subscribers-on-youtube\/\">1,000 subscribers<\/a> to just 500 subscribers as long as the channel has:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Uploaded three videos to the public within the previous 90 days<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Generated either 3,000 watch hours in the previous 12 months or 3 million Shorts video views in the last 90 days<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These more attainable goals allow newer creators to apply to join the YPP sooner. The backlash was quick and severe, but YouTube listened. In March of 2023, the powers that be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CpnL3uoOhp6\/?img_index=8\" rel=\"nofollow\">softened their stance<\/a>, stating that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ALL curse words will no longer be treated the same\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Moderate profanity used frequently and anytime throughout a video doesn\u2019t preclude earning ad revenue<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the previous update: all forms of profanity (light, moderate, and extreme) were treated equally, making it hard to monetize anything with any cursing involved<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Most profanity in background music is acceptable and won\u2019t get you demonetized<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use of stronger profanity WITHIN the first seven seconds, or repeatedly throughout the majority of your video can limit ads (better come up with a different hook!)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Content using moderate and strong profanity AFTER the first seven seconds can now earn ad revenue\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Unless profanity is repetitive throughout the majority of the video<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ads will not run on videos with profanity in the title\/thumbnail&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This doesn\u2019t exactly open the floodgates to making a ton of money dropping f-bombs. But creators can at least breathe a sigh of relief that they aren\u2019t going to get punished for the odd curse word.
